Abstract
The programme of extensive deep water mapping in the Norwegian Sea is planned as part of an annual campaign from 1999 to 2002. Data from the surveys will be used to map and document the limits of the Norwegian continental shelf as defined in the UN Convention of the Law of the Sea, Article 76. This survey continues from previous work conducted by Gardline Surveys in 1999 and 2000. During the LOS99 programme, seismic and multi-beam echo sounder data acquisition was undertaken in two phases. During phase 1, multi-channel seismic, multibeam echo sounder and sub-bottom profiling data were recorded from pinger or single channel mini airgun. Phase 2 acquired multi-beam echo sounder data over an extensive area sub-divided into polygons A - E. In addition, sub-bottom profiling were recorded from pinger or single channel mini airgun on some lines. During the LOS2000 programme multi-beam echo sounder was data were acquired during three phases. The bathymetry data for the LOS1999 and LOS2000 surveys were combined for final charts and digital elevation modelling.
